New outdoor living on older homes
Ngāruawāhia is growing, and much of our work here is older weatherboard homes getting the outdoor living they never came with — a new deck off the kitchen, a patio where the wash-house used to be. An awning is often the final piece: it makes the new space usable in February without shading the whole house through July.
Older houses need a fitter's eye. Weatherboard walls, varied framing and original joinery mean mounting points have to be found, not assumed — which is one reason we measure every job in person rather than quoting off a photo. The awning is then made in our workshop for that exact wall.

Can you mount an awning on an older weatherboard house?
Yes — it's a big part of what we do in Ngāruawāhia. Weatherboard walls need mounting points found in solid framing rather than assumed, so we assess that at the free measure and build the awning to suit that exact wall. Done properly, the awning sits as well on a 1950s home as on a new build.
Won't an awning make our damp winters worse?
