Awnings Cambridge
In a town where houses are kept beautifully, an awning has to earn its place — ours are custom made, cleanly fitted and chosen to suit the architecture.

Cambridge takes its streetscapes seriously. Villas on tree-lined avenues, high-spec new builds around Leamington and St Kilda, lifestyle blocks with landscaping that's had real thought put into it — the last thing any of them needs is a clunky bolt-on that fights the house. A well-chosen awning does the opposite: it adds a finished, deliberate line to the elevation and makes the outdoor space genuinely usable.
We make and fit two systems. Horizon folding-arm awnings — custom made with European technology and styling — extend over decks and terraces and disappear when retracted. Vertigo drop-arm awnings dress windows, adding shade and privacy. Both come in a range of fabrics and colours, so the awning can match the joinery rather than shout over it.
- Fabric and colour options chosen to suit weatherboard, brick or modern cladding
- Folding-arm awnings that retract fully so the house's lines stay clean
- Measured, made and installed by one local team — no subcontractors

Awnings for Cambridge homes, old and new
On Cambridge villas the conversation usually starts with the veranda. Verandas are lovely but narrow, and the afternoon sun sails in underneath them. A drop-arm awning on the western windows, or a folding-arm awning over the rear deck, extends the shade without touching the character of the front elevation.
The new builds around St Kilda and Leamington are a different brief: big glass, big alfresco, and a north-west orientation that turns the outdoor room into an oven by mid-afternoon. A motorised folding-arm awning — extended at the press of a button, with a wind sensor to bring it in automatically — is the tidy answer, because there are no posts and nothing permanent over the glass.
For pergolas and poolside structures on lifestyle blocks we also install retractable wave shades — canopy systems that run on walls, pergolas or poles, in a choice of styles and colours. When we visit to measure, we'll show you both options against your actual space and be straight about which one suits it.

Why Cambridge trusts us with the details
Fabrics that suit the house
Sunscreen mesh for filtered light, acrylic canvas for a fuller screen, and colour options that work with your cladding and joinery rather than against them. We bring the choices to you at the measure.
Made in our Pirongia workshop
Your awning is made to measure by our own canvas fabrication team a short drive away — so the fit is exact and the people who built it are the ones who stand behind it.
Fitted with care
Mounting points, cable runs and fixings are planned around the house, not hacked into it. The same team measures, makes and installs, so nothing is lost in a hand-off.
Awnings in Cambridge — questions
Retractable or fixed — what's right for a Cambridge villa?
On a villa we almost always suggest an awning that moves. A drop-arm awning shades the windows and folds up so the original joinery still reads from the street; a folding-arm awning over the back deck vanishes entirely when retracted. Fixed structures have their place, but on a period home an awning that disappears preserves the look you bought the house for.
Can the awning match our colour scheme?
Yes — that's half the point of made-to-measure. Fabrics come in a range of colours and finishes, from sunscreen mesh that keeps filtered light and the view, to acrylic canvas for a more solid, private look. We bring options to the measure so you can hold them against the actual wall.
Is motorisation worth the extra?
For a large awning you'll use daily, usually yes. A motorised Horizon awning extends at the press of a button, and adding a wind or motion sensor means it retracts itself when conditions turn — worth having on an awning you've invested in. Smaller units are easily driven by the gearbox handle.
What will an awning for our place cost?
Size, projection, fabric and motorisation all move the number, so we don't quote blind. We visit your Cambridge property, measure up, talk through the options and give you a fixed, no-obligation quote for the exact awning we'd build.
